May 26 - 28, 2006: European Championships (district contest) in Cologne, Germany: 1 gold and 2 silver medals

Switzerland brought home 1 gold and 2 silver medals from the European Championships in Cologne. Lesley Stephenson from the Zurich TM Club is the European Champion, Thomas Skipwith form the Rhetorik Club Zürich came in second.

Lesley won the first place in the English International Speech Contest and second place in the evaluation contest. With her gold medal she has been qualified to go to the World Championships in Washington D.C., USA.

Thomas Skipwith got the silver medal in the German Speech Contest.

August 26, 2005: Dues increase of 50% becomes a reality

Not all news can be good news. Unfortunately the delegates at the 2005 Annual Business Meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, voted to change the amount of dues. The new dues structure becomes effective October 1, 2005. Here are the new fees:

Dues for Districted Clubs: $54 annually, $27 payable every six months
New Member Fee: $20
Charter Fee: $125

These dues are what a Toastmasters club has to pay to world headquarters per member. This does not include the local costs of the clubs. Therefore the total annual fee per member can be substantially higher.

Dues Increase of 50% planned by TMI as of October 1, 2005

Toastmasters International is suggesting to increase its dues by 50% effective October 1, 2005. Read about the reasons that speak against it here (pdf, 67 kb).

New German Speaking Club in Zurich started on May 3, 2005

Toastmasters keeps on growing. The first meeting of the new German speaking club in Zurich has taken place! The meeting attracted nearly 50 participants!
